Title
Motor vehicles, distinctive license tags, veterans, Purple Heart and Medal of Honor recipients and former prisoners of war, and surviving spouses, additional tags without payment of license tax or registration fee, including ad valorem tax, authorized, Sec. 32-6-250 am'd.
Description

Under existing law, retired veterans who are recipients of the Medal of Honor or their surviving spouses and retired veterans who are former prisoners of war receive one distinctive license tag at no fee or tax. Retired veterans who are Purple Heart recipients may receive the distinctive tag at no additional fee, but must pay ad valorem tax on the vehicle. Additional distinctive license plates are available to these veterans upon payment of the regular license tax and registration fees, including ad valorem taxes

This bill would provide that Purple Heart recipients and their surviving spouses could receive a distinctive license tag at no cost, including ad valorem tax

This bill would also provide that retired veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart or the Medal of Honor and their surviving spouses and retired veterans who are former prisoners of war and their surviving spouses could receive distinctive license plates for additional vehicles without payment of the license tax and registration fees, including ad valorem taxes

To amend Section 32-6-250, Code of Alabama 1975; to provide that retired veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart and their surviving spouses may receive distinctive license tags without payment of the license tax and registration fee; to provide that retired veterans who are recipients of the Medal of Honor or their surviving spouses and retired veterans who are former prisoners of war or their surviving spouses may receive distinctive license plates for additional vehicles without payment of the license tax and registration fee.
