Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, composition of nominating committee and process for nominating, appointing and confirming members revised, certain duties of president transferred to board, provides further for payment of expenses, Secs. 16-49-20, 16-49-23, 16-49-28 am'd.
Description
<p class="bill_description"> Under existing law, the members of the Board of Trustees for the Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University are appointed by the Governor pursuant to a process utilizing a nominating committee and the president of the university, who is appointed by the board, is responsible for appointing, removing, fixing the compensation of, and defining the duties of instructors; regulating, altering, and modifying the organization of the university, subject to review and concurrence of board; prescribing courses of instruction within academic programs approved by the board; and conferring academic degrees and honorary degrees upon recommendation of the faculty</p><p class="bill_description"> This bill would substantially revise the composition of the nominating committee and the process for nominating, appointing, and confirming members of the board</p><p class="bill_description"> This bill would transfer those responsibilities of the president relating to instructors, the organization of the university, courses of instruction, and the conferring of academic and honorary degrees from the president to the board and would repeal a provision providing for removal of a trustee for a conflict of interest</p><p class="bill_description"> This bill would also provide that trustees receive payment of actual expenses incurred in the discharge of their duties to the board</p><p class="bill_entitled_an_act"> To amend Sections 16-49-20, 16-49-23, and 16-49-28, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the Board of Trustees for Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University; to revise the composition of the nominating committee; and to revise the process for nominating, appointing, and confirming members of the board; to transfer certain responsibilities of the president of the university to the board; and to provide that trustees receive payment of actual expenses incurred in the discharge of their duties to the board. </p>
