- Description
Under existing law, the Alabama Community College System operates as a department of state government.
This bill would establish the Alabama Community College System as a body corporate under the laws of the state and would grant corporate powers to the system that are similar to those held by the four-year institutions of higher education within the state.
This bill would clarify the eligibility of employees of the Alabama Community College System and community and technical colleges to participate in the Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama, the Public Education Employees' Health Insurance Plan, the State Employees' Health Insurance Plan, and other qualified health plans established pursuant to the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.
This bill would also provide certain powers to the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Community College System relating to the acquisition and disposition of property.
