Title

Description

<p class="bill_description"> Under existing law, the Investigation and Intelligence Division of the Department of Corrections investigates violations of law relating to correctional facilities and employees and prisoners</p><p class="bill_description"> This bill would change the name from the Investigation and Intelligence Division to the Law Enforcement Services Division of the Department of Corrections</p><p class="bill_description"> Under existing law, correctional investigative services officers are responsible for performing criminal investigations for the department</p><p class="bill_description"> This bill would change the name of a correctional investigative services officer to a correctional investigative agent</p><p class="bill_description"> This bill would further provide that correctional police officers would be responsible for performing criminal investigative duties for the department</p><p class="bill_description"> Under existing law, an officer or guard is required to take an oath prior to performing his or her duties of the office</p><p class="bill_description"> This bill would update the oath of office that all correctional officers are required to take prior to performing his or her duties of the office</p><p class="bill_description"> This bill would also make nonsubstantive, technical revisions to update the existing code language to current style</p><p class="bill_entitled_an_act"> Relating to the Department of Corrections; to amend Sections 14-3-2, 14-3-3, 14-3-4, 14-3-5, 14-3-9, 14-3-12, 14-3-13, 14-3-14, 14-3-15, 14-3-30, 14-3-31, 14-3-32, 14-3-34, 14-3-35, 14-3-36, 14-3-37, 14-3-38, 14-3-40, 14-3-43, 14-3-45, 14-3-47, 14-3-54, 14-3-55, 14-3-57, and 14-3-58, as last amended by Act 2019-485, 2019 Regular Session, Code of Alabama 1975, to rename the Investigation and Intelligence Division; to rename the correction investigative services officer; to require all correctional officers to take an oath prior to performing his or her duties of office; to repeal Section 14-3-38; and to make nonsubstantive, technical revisions to update the existing code language to current style. </p>
