HB281 adds new monthly and yearly expense allowances for St. Clair County's coroner and deputy coroner, converts those allowances to salaries after current terms, and funds them from the county's general fund starting October 1, 2024.
Starting October 1, 2024, the coroner will receive a $525 per month expense allowance, and the deputy coroner will receive a $2,600 per year expense allowance (paid monthly from the county's general fund). When the incumbent coroner's term ends, these allowances will be converted to a salary payable monthly from the general fund, and prior allowances will become void. Similarly, when the incumbent deputy coroner's term ends, any existing deputy/assistant allowances will be converted to salary, the position will be titled Deputy Coroner of St. Clair County, and salary will be paid monthly from the general fund; prior allowances will become void. The act takes effect October 1, 2024.
