Senate Local Legislation (Senate) Hearing

HB455 makes the residency requirement for Escambia County's county engineer permissive rather than mandatory.
If enacted, the Escambia County Commission will appoint a county engineer to serve at its pleasure, who must meet the general qualifications for county engineers and will supervise the county's road and bridge work under the direction of the Board of Revenue. The engineer's salary will be set by the board and paid from the county's road and bridge funds. The engineer may reside in Escambia County during the term of employment, instead of being required to live in the county. The act becomes effective June 1, 2024.
