Senate Judiciary (Senate) Hearing
Room 325 at 08:30:00

The bill would require Alabama broadcast stations to charge the lowest unit rate for political ads to qualified candidates, their campaign committees, and party committees during specific pre-election windows.
It adds a state-level rule that during the 45 days before a primary and the 60 days before a general election, ads by qualified candidates, principal campaign committees, and party executive committees must be charged the lowest unit rate the station offers for that class and time period. Outside those windows, rates for political ads cannot exceed what the station charges to comparable users. The bill becomes effective June 1, 2024.
