Senate Judiciary (Senate) Hearing
Room 325 at 08:30:00

SB335 would prohibit possessing firearms with parts designed to convert them into a machine gun and establish penalties for violations.
It bans possession of a firearm that has a part or combination of parts designed or intended to convert it into a machine gun installed on or attached to the firearm. A violation would be a Class C felony. There are exemptions for state or local law enforcement officers acting in official capacity, and for people who lawfully own such firearms under federal law; the act requires public education about the prohibition until October 1, 2025, and it becomes effective October 1, 2024. The definition of 'machine gun' uses the same meaning as federal law (26 U.S.C. § 5845).
