HB17 creates the Alabama Squat Truck Law, banning raising a vehicle's front fender four inches or more above the rear fender and establishing penalties for violations.
It makes it unlawful to operate a passenger car or truck on Alabama highways if the front fender height is raised four or more inches above the rear fender by altering the suspension, frame, or chassis, with height measured vertically from the ground through the wheel center to the bottom of the front fender. An exception applies to bona fide commercial or agricultural modifications. Violations carry escalating fines: up to $50 for the first, up to $100 for the second, and up to $250 for the third or subsequent conviction within the prior five years. The law takes effect October 1, 2025.
