HB195 would expand eligibility for the Disabled Veteran license plate to veterans with at least 50% disability.
It changes the eligibility rule so that any disabled veteran with 50% or more disability can obtain the special Disabled Veteran license plate. The plate would be issued by the county judge of probate after proof of eligibility and a $5 fee, and it would read 'Disabled Veteran' with the veteran's branch of service and an identifying number, and would be non-transferable. The bill also clarifies how the $5 fee interacts with other license fees and that extra fees for distinctive or personalized plates still apply, with the new law taking effect January 1, 2026.
