HB424 would change Montgomery County sheriff pay by adding an expense allowance for eligible sheriffs and increasing the salary for those who have served two consecutive full terms.
It provides an additional annual expense allowance to eligible Montgomery County sheriffs who have served two consecutive full terms (amount shown in the bill) payable from the county's general fund and usable toward retirement contributions, in addition to other compensation. It also establishes a higher annual salary for those sheriffs who have served two or more consecutive full terms, with a range from $175,000 to $225,000 per year, to be paid from the general fund starting with the next term. The act becomes effective on the first day of the first month after the bill is passed, and the expense allowance ends after the term of the sheriff serving on August 1, 2023 (or if there is a vacancy).
