HB542 expands retirement benefits by adding full-time prosecutors and Office of Prosecution Services attorneys to the District Attorneys' Plan and allows dual participation in both the supernumerary program and the Employees' Retirement System for eligible district attorneys.
The bill expands who can be a member of the District Attorneys' Plan to include full-time prosecutors and full-time Office of Prosecution Services attorneys, making them eligible for retirement benefits under that plan. It provides retirement allowances and benefits for these new members as well as for district attorneys. It also allows district attorneys who qualify for both the supernumerary district attorney program and the Employees' Retirement System based on separate years of service to participate in both programs. The act becomes effective on July 1, 2025.
