SB66 would create a new crime, presentment of a forged instrument, when someone knowingly presents a forged instrument to state or local government employees with intent to defraud, with penalties and an effective date of Oct 1, 2025.
It establishes the crime of presenting a forged instrument to a state or local government employee or official with knowledge that it is forged and with intent to defraud, or presenting a forged written instrument that identifies or is linked to another person with intent to defraud. The offense is designated as a Class D felony. The bill amends Section 13A-9-7.1 and sets the new crime to take effect on October 1, 2025.
