HB383 would require a 12-month probationary period for new Tuscaloosa County civil service employees, authorize part-time positions through board rules, repeal a temporary-employment provision, and take effect October 1, 2026.
If enacted, the bill sets a 12-month probationary period for all newly hired employees subject to the Tuscaloosa County Civil Service System. It allows the Tuscaloosa County Civil Service Board to adopt rules to hire employees who work less than full-time. It repeals the existing temporary-employment provision (Section 9 of Act 49-357). The act would become effective on October 1, 2026.
