House Financial Services Hearing
Room 617 at 12:30:00

HB545 would authorize rounding in-person cash transactions to the nearest five cents in Alabama.
The bill lets cash payments be rounded to the nearest five cents using a specific digit-based scheme. It does not change the sale price, tax, or surcharges, and the rounding applies only to the cash portion of a payment (or to the cash portion of a mixed payment). If a transaction uses both cash and another payment method, the rounding affects only the cash portion. The Department of Revenue would post a notice about the authorization, and the measure takes effect immediately.
