SB300 updates the Helping Schools license plate design and provides a free replacement for certain owners starting in 2027.
The bill updates the plate to have a white background with 'Helping Schools' in red lettering and a drawing of a red apple, green book, and yellow ruler, designed by the State Department of Revenue. Plates are issued like other personalized plates, are valid for five years, and require the standard license fees plus a $20 annual plate fee. At renewal, the plate may be replaced with conventional plates, other personalized plates, or a new Helping Schools plate. For the 2027 registration year only, those who bought or renewed a Helping Schools plate between March 1, 2025 and December 31, 2026 will receive a free replacement plate that meets the new design.
