Allows Shelby County to sell gas, minerals, and other commodities produced by its landfill operations, with proceeds funding waste management and landfill projects.
The county commission can authorize sales of landfill-derived commodities to public or private parties. Sales must use free and open competitive bidding with sealed bids to the lowest responsible bidder. Contracts for sale can last up to 20 years. Proceeds go to the Shelby County General Fund and must be used for solid waste collection and disposal, landfill maintenance and construction (including the landfill gas collection system), and other legally allowed purposes.
