Title
Senate, President Pro Tempore, continuation of office between general election and organizational session
Description

Currently, there is no law providing for the continuation of the office of President Pro Tempore of the Senate for the period of time between the statewide general election in the fourth year of a legislative quadrennium and the ensuing organizational session of the newly elected Legislature if the currently serving President Pro Tempore is not reelected.

This bill wold provide that a serving President Pro Tempore who is reelected at the general election would continue to serve in that capacity until the succeeding organizational session. The bill would provide that if a serving President Pro Tempore ceases to be a member of the Senate for any reason prior to the election of a President Pro Tempore at an organizational session, the member of the Senate elected to the Legislative Council with the longest service as a member of the Senate would serve as President Pro Tempore until a President Pro Tempore is elected by the Senate.
