A bill introduced in the Alabama House would suspend the state's gasoline and motor fuel taxes from April 15 through June 15, 2026. The proposal would temporarily remove 30 cents per gallon on gasoline and 31 cents per gallon on motor fuels if lawmakers approve it.
A House bill by Rep. Mike Shaw would phase out Alabama's state sales tax on food over several years and let cities and counties adopt their own local exemptions beginning in 2029. The proposal is now before the House Ways and Means Education Committee.
