HB31 in Marengo County adds a $10 special filing fee for probate petitions to fund records and technology improvements in the judge of probate’s office.
If enacted, it would impose a $10 special court filing fee on all petitions that start judicial proceedings in the Marengo County probate court, in addition to existing fees. The collected money goes into a dedicated fund managed by the judge of probate for upgrading recording and archiving, improving internet technology, preserving and retrieving records, and paying for related equipment, maintenance, training, and services for the recording, court, and license divisions. The act does not change existing fee laws and becomes effective a few months after it is signed into law.
