It authorizes the Marengo County Commission to impose an additional annual issuance fee of up to $5 per motor vehicle tag. The fee is due at the same time as the state license/registration and can’t be collected more than once per vehicle per year. Seniors aged 65 and older can be exempted from paying the fee for one vehicle. Collected funds are placed into a special fund to support the Economic Development Authority and local road improvements, and the fee can be removed by the taxing authority if it won’t affect contractual obligations. The act defines motor vehicles and excludes utility trailers, and it sunsets on October 1, 2022 (with the effective date on October 1, 2012).
