Starting Jan 1, 2013, the Sheriff will receive an additional $500 per month from the county general fund as an expense allowance. Beginning with the next term of office, the Sheriff’s salary will be set to the first step of the Circuit Clerk’s salary range, paid from the county general fund, and Section 1 becomes void when this takes effect. Newly elected or appointed sheriffs will start at Step 1 of the Circuit Clerk’s compensation schedule and will receive annual raises like the Circuit Clerk. The act becomes effective immediately after governor approval (or when it becomes law).
