Summary

Session
Regular Session 2012
Title
Rules of the road, bicyclists, right hand turn, bicyclists authorized to use right arm and hand extended horizontally, Sec. 32-5A-263 am'd.
Description

Under existing law, a person riding a bicycle is required to follow the Rules of the Road for motor vehicles unless otherwise provided by law or unless a rule by its nature does not apply.

Therefore, a person riding a bicycle is required to give a hand signal for a right turn in the same manner as the driver of a motor vehicle gives a signal for a right turn, with his or her left arm and hand extended upward.

This bill would authorize a person riding a bicycle to give a hand signal for a right turn with his or her right arm and hand extended horizontally on the right side of the bicycle.
