Summary

Session
First Special Session 2015
Title
Forever Wild Trust Fund, monies paid annually from Alabama Trust Fund to be appropriated to Conservation and Natural Resources Department for benefit of state parks, new acquistion of lands prohibited, const. amend.
Description

Under Amendment 543 of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, now appearing as Section 219.07 of the Official Recompilation of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, as amended, no funds or assets of the Forever Wild Land Trust may be expended or used to construct or improve buildings, structures or facilities used for human lodging, feeding or entertainment, or similar facilities that have a principal purpose not related to the stewardship of properties of the Forever Wild Land Trust; however funds allocated to the Stewardship Account may be used for construction, maintenance, and improvements located on Trust Lands in connection with the performance of stewardship responsibilities of the Board.

Under Amendment 856 of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, now appearing as Section 219.09 of the Official Recompilation of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, as amended, certain distributions are provided to the Forever Wild Land Trust from the Alabama Trust Fund.

This bill would propose an amendment to Amendment 543, now appearing as Section 219.07 of the Official Recompilation of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, as amended, and Amendment 856, now appearing as Section 219.09 of the Official Recompilation of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, as amended, to require the full sum of the annual amount paid to the Forever Wild Land Trust from the Alabama Trust Fund to be appropriated to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for the state parks of Alabama. In addition, this bill would prohibit the acquisition of new lands by purchase to be held in the Forever Wild Land Trust.
