HB347 adds a $30 booking fee as court costs in St. Clair County for defendants booked or jailed after conviction or guilty plea, with the money funding a new county jail.
The clerk must assess a $30 booking fee as court costs against each defendant who is incarcerated in or booked in a St. Clair County jail after being convicted or pleading guilty in the county's circuit or district court. The fee is in addition to all other fines and costs and cannot be waived unless all other fees and costs are waived. Collected fees are remitted monthly to the St. Clair County Commission to be deposited in the county general fund for the construction, maintenance, and operation of a new jail or jails. The act becomes effective after a local constitutional amendment authorizing additional court costs in St. Clair County is adopted.
