HB499 would provide the Lowndes County sheriff with a $10,000 annual expense allowance and, starting with the next sheriff’s term, raise the sheriff’s annual salary by $10,000, replacing the expense allowance.
If enacted, the sheriff would receive an additional $10,000 per year as an expense allowance from the county general fund, paid in equal monthly installments after the act becomes law. Starting with the expiration of the incumbent sheriff’s term, the sheriff’s annual salary would increase by $10,000 per year, paid monthly from the general fund, and the initial $10,000 expense allowance would then be nullified. The act also repeals conflicting laws and becomes effective on the first day of the third month after it becomes law.
