SB198 creates a dedicated Hale County Sheriff Service of Process Serving Fund to pay for process serving and allows the sheriff to contract for service.
It creates the Hale County Sheriff Service of Process Serving Fund. The sheriff may contract with private, public, or governmental entities to handle service of process. A new $10 fee per civil or criminal document is added, collected by court officials, and remitted to the sheriff for deposit into the Fund. The Fund may be used for county law enforcement purposes, including paying for process service, and the money cannot revert to the county’s general fund or replace other sheriff/jail funding.
