Bill Summary
Under the Alabama School Choice and Student Opportunity Act adopted during the 2015 Regular Session, charter schools are authorized in this state.
This bill would establish a pilot program for the operation of internal public charter schools to end with the 2020-2021 school year, unless extended by the Legislature.
This bill would require internal public charter schools to annually report to the State Department of Education regarding student achievement, student growth by newly enrolled students and continuing students, and any other information as determined necessary by the department.
This bill would also require the Alabama Public Charter School Commission to issue an annual report on the progress of the internal public charter school pilot program to the Legislature and the Governor.
Relating to education; to establish a pilot program for the operation of internal public charter schools; to provide for the extension of the program by the Legislature; to require internal public charter schools to report annually to the State Department of Education; to require the Alabama Public Charter School Commission to annually report to the Legislature and the Governor; and to provide rulemaking authority.
