- Description
Under existing law, the Department of Corrections is specifically authorized to purchase equipment, raw materials, components, and supplies and to engage the supervisory personnel necessary to establish or maintain penitentiaries, penal farms, and other institutions needed for the manufacture or production of articles or products needed for the construction, operation, maintenance, or use of any office, department, institution, or agency supported by the state or its political subdivisions.
Also under existing law, purchases of equipment, raw materials, components, and supplies made by the Department of Corrections are exempt from purchasing through the Division of Purchasing of the Department of Finance.
This bill would specifically authorize the Department of Corrections to purchase services and would exempt those purchases from purchasing through the Division of Purchasing of the Department of Finance.
