Under existing law, there are certain statewide offenses relating to gambling
Also, under existing law, local legislation may not be enacted on a subject that is dealt with by general law unless, among other things, the general law allows it
This bill would authorize the adoption of local legislation authorizing wagering on professional, collegiate, and amateur sports contests and athletic events

Under existing law, there are certain statewide offenses relating to gambling
Also, under existing law, local legislation may not be enacted on a subject that is dealt with by general law unless, among other things, the general law allows it
This bill would authorize the adoption of local legislation authorizing wagering on professional, collegiate, and amateur sports contests and athletic events
To add Section 13A-12-25.1 to the Code of Alabama 1975; to authorize the adoption of local legislation providing for wagering on professional, collegiate, and amateur sports contests and athletic events.
Section 1
Section 13A-12-25.1 is added to the Code of Alabama 1975, to read as follows: §13A-12-25.1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, wagering on professional, collegiate, and amateur sports contests and athletic events may be authorized by local legislation.
Section 2
This act shall become effective immediately following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
