- Title
- Elections, prohibiting poll watchers from assisting an individual with voting, Secs. 11-46-51, 17-9-13 am'd.
- Description
Under existing law, in municipal elections, an individual may receive assistance with voting from two inspectors of his or her choice or any other individual the voter chooses, and may receive assistance with voting for specified reasons but must state the reason he or she needs assistance.
Under existing law, in nonmunicipal elections, an individual may receive assistance with voting from any individual the voter chooses except the voter's employer, an agent of the employer, or an officer or agent of the voter's union, and may receive assistance with voting for any reason and is not required to state the reason he or she needs assistance.
This bill would prohibit a candidate or poll watcher from assisting an individual with voting and make municipal election laws regarding assistance with voting consistent with nonmunicipal election laws.
This bill would also make nonsubstantive, technical revisions to update the existing code language to current style.
