- Regular Session 2022
- Title
- Code of Alabama, procedure for transmitting sets to members of Legislature, revised, Sec. 41-21-1 am'd.
- Description
Under existing law, the Secretary of State is required to transmit sets of the Code of Alabama 1975, as well as supplements or replacement volumes, to certain public officials, agencies, law libraries, and other specified public entities upon written request by the various recipients. Members of the Legislature are among the officials who receive sets of the Code of Alabama 1975, however, legislative members receive the sets automatically unless they specifically elect to decline receiving the books.
This bill would provide that members of the Legislature no longer receive sets of the Code of Alabama 1975 automatically, but rather must request them from the Secretary of State in the same manner as other recipients.
Under existing law, the Secretary of State must notify a new public official filling a vacated office, within 30 days of learning the vacancy was filled, that the new public official is eligible to receive a set of the Code of Alabama 1975.
This bill would extend to 90 the number of days after learning of the filling of a vacancy that the Secretary of State must provide notice to the new public official.
