House Constitution, Campaigns and Elections Hearing

HB186 would prevent political parties from disqualifying a candidate from nomination solely because they received contributions from a specific person or PAC.
The bill adds a new rule to Section 17-13-47 that bars a political party from disqualifying someone from nomination based only on campaign contributions from a particular donor or PAC. The existing provisions about party qualifications and nomination assessments remain in place, but they may not be used to justify disqualification on donor-only grounds. The act takes effect on June 1, 2024.
