HB322 would allow Calhoun County to levy up to a $2 annual extra vehicle license/registration fee on new registrations, transfers, or renewals, with proceeds going to the Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Fund to support law enforcement, starting January 1, 2025 if the levy is made by December 1, 2024; the act becomes effective October 1, 2024.
Authorizes the Calhoun County Commission to levy and collect an annual up to $2 extra motor vehicle license/registration issuance fee on each new registration, transfer, or renewal in the county. If the levy is enacted by December 1, 2024, the additional fee would start with the 2025 license year. Proceeds are distributed monthly by the License Commissioner to the Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Fund for law enforcement purposes and must not replace or diminish other sheriff funding; the fee is in addition to existing fees and charges. Once levied, the fee cannot be amended or reduced.
