House Baldwin County Legislation Hearing
Room 402 at 09:00:00

HB342 would reset Baldwin County sheriff compensation to a fixed annual salary within $130,000–$150,000, replacing existing pay starting after June 1, 2024, with a transitional period (2022–2024) providing an expense allowance to reach that range and applying future cost-of-living adjustments in the same way.
The bill amends the sheriff’s pay rules to set a target range of $130,000–$150,000 per year. From March 28, 2022 through June 1, 2024, the sheriff would get an additional expense allowance to make total compensation fall within that range, paid monthly from the county general fund. Beginning with the next term after June 1, 2024, the sheriff would receive an annual salary within that range in lieu of other compensation, and any cost-of-living adjustments granted to sheriff’s employees would also apply to the sheriff; increases would be paid as expense allowances during the term and then converted to salary at the end of the term.
