HB397 requires DeKalb County to divide funds from certain filing and recording fees evenly between mental health staffing and school resource officers, starting with the 2020-2021 fiscal year and taking effect October 1, 2024.
The bill amends Section 45-25-250.17 to require the county to annually allocate funds from the county's filing and recording fees (from Resolution 92-1013-05) so that 50% goes to the Etowah-DeKalb Cherokee Mental Health Board (doing business as CED Mental Health Center) to hire mental health professionals in DeKalb County, and 50% goes to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office to hire school resource officers in the county and its cities. The act becomes effective on October 1, 2024.
