SB245 would expand crime victim compensation to cover income loss for human trafficking victims and allow commission members to be paid for days spent performing duties, not only for attending meetings.
It adds loss of income for victims of human trafficking to the types of work loss eligible for compensation. It changes how the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Commission pays its members by allowing payment for days spent performing duties, not just days they attend meetings. It sets payment rules: $250 per day for meeting attendance plus mileage, and up to $250 per day for duties performed, with funds from the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Fund. It becomes effective on October 1, 2024.
