HB241 would stop counties and cities from requiring architect or engineer plan approval for new single-family homes that are under three stories tall.
Prevents local governments from mandating approval of plans by a registered architect or licensed professional engineer for single-family homes under three stories. Applies to plans regardless of the home's total size, expanding beyond the current limit tied to 2,500 square feet. Overrides conflicting local rules under Section 34-2-32, Code of Alabama 1975. Becomes effective October 1, 2025.
