In Jefferson County, HB73 would make possession of a trigger activator illegal and establish civil penalties for violations, with certain exemptions, taking effect October 1, 2025.
The bill bans knowingly possessing a trigger activator in Jefferson County. Anyone violation could face a civil penalty of at least $1,000 per violation, recoverable by civil action through the local district attorney or the Attorney General. There are exemptions for law enforcement officers acting in official capacity, people who lawfully possess trigger activators under federal law, and trigger activators that increase firing rate but do not let a semiautomatic firearm shoot more than two shots per trigger pull.
