House County and Municipal Government Hearing
Room 418 at 13:30:00

SB117 would let certain Alabama municipalities collaborate with sheriffs on traffic enforcement and potentially add extra fees on traffic violations to fund the sheriff’s office.
The bill authorizes Class 1, 2, and 3 municipalities to enter memorandums of understanding with the local sheriff and county commission about traffic enforcement. It allows those MOUs to include additional fees for traffic violations and specifies that the extra fee revenue paid to the sheriff’s office must be used only for law enforcement purposes. The act would take effect June 1, 2025.
