House Financial Services Hearing
Room 617 at 09:00:00

Alabama would recognize refined gold and silver bullion, specie, and certain coins stamped with weight and purity as legal tender, but acceptance would be voluntary.
If enacted, the bill would allow refined gold/silver bullion, specie, or coins stamped with weight and purity to be considered legal tender in Alabama. However, no one would be required to offer or accept this legal tender for debts or other payments, and there would be no liability for refusing, unless a contract or other law specifies otherwise. The act takes effect on October 1, 2025.
