SB224 authorizes the Mobile County Sheriff to administer electronic monitoring for pretrial defendants in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, bans outsourcing, and directs collected fees to the county general fund, effective June 1, 2025.
The Sheriff of Mobile County will be in charge of all electronic monitoring for pretrial defendants in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit. It bars contracting with outside entities for these services. It lets the Sheriff set and collect administrative and supervision fees from individuals in monitoring programs to fund electronic monitoring and related programs, with all fees deposited into the county general fund. The change takes effect on June 1, 2025.
