SB341 broadens Alabama's distinctive veteran license tag program to include more radiation-exposed veterans and various listed conflicts, with updated fees and administration starting October 1, 2025.
The bill expands who is eligible for a distinctive veteran license tag to include veterans exposed to dangerous radiation as defined by the bill, in addition to veterans from Vietnam, Korea, World War II, and several other conflicts. Eligible veterans must apply to the probate judge or license commissioner, comply with vehicle registration laws, and pay the standard tag fee plus an additional fee (initially $3, or $6 for a Vietnam tag with $3 of that amount to go to a veterans organization; renewal for Vietnam tags is $3). The tags are designed by specified organizations and the Department of Veterans Affairs, are non-transferable, and eligibility is certified by the appropriate authorities; the program becomes effective October 1, 2025.
