SB74 would require Alabama to create and annually deliver a cyber safety education program for public middle and high schools, taught by school resource officers.
If enacted, the State Board of Education would develop a cyber safety curriculum focused on internet hazards, cyberbullying, and sexting. School resource officers would administer the program each year at every public middle and high school, with the board adopting rules and local boards implementing it. The curriculum would cover Alabama laws on internet safety, sexting risks and consequences, resources for affected individuals, cyberbullying effects and reporting, general online safety tips, and additional relevant information as determined by the board.
