HB536 revises Henry County sheriff compensation, setting a $94,000 annual total pay with an initial expense allowance, adds an 8% increase for successive terms, and repeals the old sheriff pay statute.
Starting June 1, 2026, the sheriff’s compensation includes an expense allowance that brings total pay to $94,000 per year. Beginning January 18, 2027, the base salary becomes $94,000 per year, in lieu of other allowances. From that date, the sheriff earns an 8% raise for each second or subsequent term, with non-successive terms treated as a first term. The sheriff receives benefits equal to other county employees, but is not eligible for additional increases beyond those provided in this act. The old compensation statute (45-34-230) is repealed.
