Senate Local Legislation Hearing

This bill would provide compensation for the Washington County circuit clerk and set a future effective date, with a repeal trigger tied to the current clerk’s vacancy.
HB636 amends Section 3 of Act 84-549 (1984) to provide for the compensation of the Washington County circuit clerk. It includes a severability clause so parts of the act can stand even if another part is invalid. It also provides that if the current circuit clerk vacates on January 1, 2026, Section 1 of this act will be repealed immediately and will not affect future office holders. The act becomes effective October 1, 2026.
