HB466 adds Parkinson's disease to firefighter occupational diseases and establishes a workplace exposure presumption for disability and death benefits.
It adds Parkinson's disease to the list of firefighter occupational diseases for both city (municipal) firefighters and state firefighters. It creates a presumption that PD is related to employment if the firefighter was exposed to a known toxin linked to PD, and the city or state must show alternate causes by a preponderance of evidence to disqualify. It applies to firefighters with at least three years of service and provides benefits equivalent to other service-connected disability or death benefits; the act also clarifies eligibility rules and aligns language with current statutes. The measure takes effect October 1, 2026 and includes technical revisions to update language.
