Room 429 at 10:30:00

HB500 would restructure Mobile County's constable offices so that starting in 2029 there are three constables for each Alabama House district with territory in the county, each serving four-year terms and eligible only if they are qualified electors of their district.
Starting in 2029, Mobile County will have three constables for every Alabama House district that includes county territory, with constables elected under state law. Each constable will serve a four-year term beginning on the first Monday after the second Tuesday following their election. To be eligible to hold the office, a constable must be a qualified elector of the district they represent. The act becomes effective January 1, 2028, but only if a general law authorizing this local change to the constable's office is enacted.
