SB202 would provide an expense allowance and a higher salary for Montgomery County sheriffs who have served two consecutive full terms, starting with the next term after passage.
If enacted, it creates an additional annual expense allowance for Montgomery County sheriffs who have served two consecutive full terms (the bill text lists $20,000 or $70,000 per year) payable in monthly installments from the county's general fund, in addition to other compensation and potentially usable for retirement contributions. It also sets an annual salary for such sheriffs starting with the next term at $175,000 to $225,000, paid from the county general fund. The expense allowance would become void earlier if the sheriff's term ends or there is a vacancy in the office. The act becomes effective on the first day of the month after it passes.
