Ben Reed is Chairman of the Public Safety Committee. He is currently serving his sixth term on the city council, those terms being from 1994 to 1998, 2002 to 2006, 2006 to 2010, 2010 to 2014, 2014 to 2018, and 2018 to 2022. He received the designation of Emeritus Certified Municipal Official, is a National League of Cities CED Committee member, was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Honor 2004, and is a member of the Patriots Board.
